Weight loss, GLP-1s & the holidays

It’s that time of the year again where we all try to walk the line between great times and overindulging.

Let’s set a goal for the holiday season, and preferably one that is realistic and achievable. For some that may be to maintain their weight, while for others it may be to continue to lose weight. To stay on track, weigh yourself daily, as it will help you stay mindful of your progress. Consistency is key, so keep exercising and continue your meal plan over the holiday season.

If you’re heading to a party, take a food platter – veggies with dip, a fruit tray, or even chicken skewers. Besides making you look like a great guest, it will also ensure that you’ve got something with the right amount of calories to nibble on. Don’t feel pressured to eat everything that is offered, and stay mindful of your fullness cues. Eating the “usual” amount at a holiday party will likely lead to eating too much and resulting in nausea and reflux. Start with half of your usual portion and reassess hunger level after finishing. GLP-1 medications will reduce your holiday cravings. Keep all of this in mind so you can enjoy the holiday season without overindulgence.

Weight loss meds are not the best mixer with alcohol, so please be careful. GLP-1s will likely decrease your interest in alcohol while also lowering your tolerance, so it’s best to limit yourself to one drink.

The holidays don’t have to be all about eating. Think about creating new traditions that include movement and fun activities.

Most importantly, enjoy every moment and make some AWEsome memories!
