Childhood Obesity

The Issue

Children need a certain number of calories for growth and development. They often carry different amounts of body fat at various stages of development. However, some children are at a greater risk for weight gain than others. These extra pounds often start children on the path to health problems that were once considered adult problems – Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol. Childhood obesity can also lead to poor self-esteem and depression.  Overweight and obese children are more likely to stay obese into adulthood.

The Cause

There are many reasons why a child may be overweight or obese including medical or genetic ones. In most cases, it is likely due to inactivity and/or too many calories from food and drinks.

The Solution

Our comprehensive approach and personalized treatment plans are tailored to your child’s and your family’s needs. We will discuss eating and exercise habits of the family, how to start a physical activity program, how to manage screen time, sleep, nonfood rewards, self-esteem and much more.
