WEIGHT LOSS MEDS & YOU

Weight loss medication can be an effective part of a comprehensive weight loss program, but it isn’t suitable for everyone and should only be prescribed by a specialized doctor familiar with your medical history. At AWE, we make it easy to get started by allowing you to complete an initial health, lifestyle, and goals assessment online. Always remember, your health and well-being are always our top priority.

APPLYING FOR MEDS

Weight loss medication can be an effective tool that is part of a complete weight loss program. Medications are not suitable for everyone and should only be prescribed by a specialized doctor with a clear understanding of your medical history. At AWE, we make it convenient for you to get started with this medical assessment by answering some basic questions online about your health, lifestyle and goals. If you have a recent blood test from a certified lab, we will request a copy to be sent to us.

CONSULTATIONS

As we’ve mentioned, weight loss medications aren’t suitable for everyone. That’s why your first consultation with our doctor will include a comprehensive medical assessment to ensure these medications are right for you. We will review lab results you have provided in detail. If you do not have recent lab results, we can give you a script to coordinate testing, which will be processed through your insurance. After evaluating your lifestyle, health conditions, and dietary choices, we’ll also create a personalized nutrition and exercise plan to complement the medication. In follow-up visits, our doctor will monitor your progress, make any necessary adjustments, and either administer the next dose or issue a prescription for you.

prescriptions

Patients enrolled in our medication prescription programs (Follow the Script or The Full Dose) will receive a refill prescription every 28 days. After reviewing your lab results, we will send a prescription either to your preferred pharmacy or to our compounding pharmacy for fulfillment. These medications come in five different dosages, and to prioritize minimizing side effects, we’ll start you at the lowest dose and adjust as needed to optimize your weight loss journey.

DElivery

GLP-1 compound medication sourced through AWE will require approximately 1 week to be available. GLP-1 medication obtained through a retail pharmacy may require 1-2 weeks to be ready. This period will include the time it takes for prior authorization paperwork required by your insurance company. Please consider that your pharmacy may not have the medication in stock and may need to order it leading to delays.

Insurance

We recommend calling your health insurance company to see if you have pharmacy benefits for weight loss medications. If you have benefits in your insurance plan, we will complete the necessary paperwork to get the medication approved and then send a prescription to your pharmacy. There’s no need to be concerned if you don’t have benefits or insurance. Abeles Wellness Experience has access to compounded GLP-1 medications at competitive pricing.

Constant Care

Regular follow-up visits are essential to ensure your maximum weight loss. During these monthly consultations we will make adjustments to your medication dosages, nutrition plan and physical activity plan according to your progress. If you have any questions or updates during your program, you could message or call the doctor.

Please take note of the following points while on any weight loss program using medication:

Multi-dose vials are only good for 30 days. You will get a refill (a new vial) every month. Please avoid using any leftover medication and discard it safely.

The first dose, which will also be the lowest dosage, will be used as a test for side effects. Please ensure that you stay hydrated, watch your portion sizes while avoiding sugary and fatty foods to avoid any negative effects. Typically, there are five dosage levels, with the dose increasing each month. Most patients do not experience significant weight loss until around the third month.

GLP-1 medications are not recommended if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding. Additionally, you should avoid taking this medication if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, type 2 multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN), known hypersensitivity to the medication, gastroparesis, or a history of pancreatitis.
