The road to weight loss can certainly feel bumpy at times. We tend to focus on choosing the right diet, the right gym or trainer. What about support and accountability? Studies have shown the right buddy can make the difference between success or failure with any weight loss plan.

Weight loss buddies are two people who share a common goal and know they can count on each other to help them achieve that goal in whatever way it takes. Working out together, recipe swaps, perhaps even taking turns babysitting so each can get to the gym. It is important to spend time listening and encouraging each other. Encouragement comes in different forms, from kind and supportive words to literally dragging the other partner out of the house to the gym.

A buddy contract spells out mutual goals and ways you plan to help each other achieve them.

Goals should be both short-and long-term. The contract should be flexible as to how the goals will be accomplished in order to accommodate what you learn about yourselves and each other along the way.

The perfect buddy can be your significant other, best friend, neighbor, or even someone you met at the gym. The purpose of the buddy system is to enhance the weight loss journey for both, making it easier and more fun.
